Love from Love Your Bike

Bowel cancer claims the lives of thousands of men and women every year – including increasing numbers of young people. During 2017, we worked with our charity partner Bowel Cancer West (BCW) to help raise awareness of this form of cancer. Working together we raised over £3,000 to help BCW continue to change lives.

Founded by Plymouth-based colorectal surgeon Mark Colman, BCW works to raise awareness of bowel cancer, encouraging men and women to seek medical help if they experience the symptoms of the disease. Incidences of bowel cancer are high — and increasing every year — but the level of knowledge about the condition low.

We worked with BCW throughout 2017 to help them share their message. As a result of our significant media coverage, we had a real impact.

Mark Coleman, said:

“Through the support of the Bristol Grand Prix, this has given us a fantastic platform to not only launch our appeal, but also spread our bowel cancer awareness and prevention message.”

On the day of the race, the charity had a strong presence around the course providing information to the thousands of visitors.

BCW received all proceeds from the Love Your Bike lap, with some riders generously offering additional contributions when they signed up.

The Love Your Bike event offered riders of all ages and abilities the chance to get out and enjoy the feeling of closed road cycling on the Bristol GP course, with over 50 riders taking part.

Inspired by the work of BCW, on the day representatives of the charity were presented with a cheque for £3,000 to kick-start the charities fundraising effort from our race partners Prologue Works and Kennedy Wilson Europe.

“We wanted to get behind an important local cause that will make a real impact on how young people with bowel cancer are treated” said Mike Pegler, Head of UK Asset Management at Kennedy Wilson Europe. “We are delighted to support them with this and wish them every success as they aim to reach their target amount.”

We hope to continue to build on our relationship with BCW as part of the 2018 Bristol Grand Prix, helping them to change the lives of many more people with bowel cancer.
