Tobias Parker, CEO of Sustain
In his day job, Tobias is the CEO of Sustain, a Bristol-based energy and carbon management company committed to helping organisations manage their carbon footprint.
He talks to us about why cycling is important to him, and his business.
Can you describe why supporting exercise is important for your business?
We strive to be a forward thinking business and by encouraging staff to participate in a more active commute, we hope to improve their wellbeing and happiness in the workplace.
As a fully employee owned company, the wellbeing of our staff really is at the heart of our business. We believe that healthy employees are happy ones and happy employees get the job done! In our case – that’s by helping other businesses reduce their energy costs and carbon footprint.
What do you do to support staff to cycle?
As well as having a centrally located office, we provide facilities to accommodate sustainable methods of transport. We have dedicated bike storage for our staff so they can cycle to work without having to worry about locking their bike outside and our office also has shower and washroom facilities for staff who choose to walk, run or cycle!
We are also committed to our business-wide environmental policy which aims to reduce our carbon emissions by 4% year-on-year. Our employees’ commute to work is a big part of our carbon footprint and so encouraging staff to opt for cleaner, greener and healthier methods of transport is important in doing so.
What do you hope to get out of your involvement with the Bristol GP?
As passionate cyclists, we are delighted to be involved in an event that celebrates cycling and aims to put Bristol on the cycling map! We hope that by getting involved, we can encourage more businesses and individuals to adopt sustainable, healthier methods of transport in their daily lives. We’re also keen to give the other businesses involved a run for their money in this year’s team relay!
